The Journey Begins

Wow, what a time I’ve had! It’s been many years that I’ve been doing pretty much the same thing. Starting my career in the deep end at Clearwater and finishing with a bang at Wicked Pixels has taught me a lot about the industry and I’ve learned a lot about myself, my voice, and even a spark for making games has gone full blown inferno!

It’s now time for me to take advantage of the knowledge I’ve gained and make things. The best way for me personally to do this is to break free from the nine to five, from someone else’s schedule, from another person’s creative vision.

That brings me to today. I’ve started my own actual little company to facilitate this crazy mind of mine. I will still do visual effects and animation but having my time to myself gives me the freedom to actually explore life, and maybe finish my game. I need to fail fast.

Bring it on!

Top 30 Countdown

About a month before I left Wicked Pixels I worked on a very detailed show elements project for Top 30 Countdown. I did their intro sequence and countdown elements that they would use during the show. I enjoyed making the robot dance. I even ended up doing the sound design by accident!

DStv’s new satellite

What do you do when you don’t have intricate rocket parts or models of the satellite you’re supposed to be showing? Use steam train parts! Two colleagues and I at Wicked Pixels got gold for Best VFX & Compositing at Promax that year.

Channel O Idents

Channel O is always fun to work on. Around 2017 at Wicked Pixels we were given the go ahead to play with the idents and mash a whole bunch of ideas together. Ended up winning Best Ident Design at Promax!

ABSA pieces

This was another fun one from Wicked Pixels where we made various letter stings that were all cut together in a longer final product. We were told to take it as an opportunity to try stuff. And so I did!

The spice melange

A great challenge from Wicked Pixels where client wanted a “whirlwind of spices” and all their actual ingredients to flow into the spice bottle. I’m particularly proud of this one because I modelled and textured 100% of what you see in the final project!

Channel O Elements

This one from Wicked Pixels brought me back to my Orijin days where I had to churn out a LOT of elements where the show names and tx times changed. I was a little rusty but I got all 60 or so of them delivered a few times. I even made them templates!

Curved Cards

This one from Wicked Pixels taught me a lot about rendering limitations. Cliented wanted to see the brushed metal flakes on the card and Redshift just wasn’t cutting it so I had to resort to the slower Arnold. It turned out very pretty though!

MTN Meme Bonanza

I just like that word “bonanza”. One of the larger projects I was heavily involved in at Wicked Pixels was the MTN Bright Side campaign. I even did a 360 VR version of the whole thing!

Danone Transformation

This one was one of the more mind bending ones that I worked on at Wicked Pixels. We were given an image of a cheesecake, a spoon had to stir the top of the cheesecake which then transformed into the yoghurt inside a tub. Sounds deceptively simple!
